CM Bhajan Lal Sharma Inaugurates 1.3GW Solar Plant In Pokhran; Hails ‘Make In India’ Milestone

Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma inaugurated a 1.3GW solar power plant in Pokhran on Thursday.

He called it a landmark for India’s renewable energy journey and a shining example of the ‘Make in India’ initiative.

The project, developed by ReNew Power, spans over 3,500 acres and is among the largest of its kind in the region.

A ‘Make In India’ Model

CM Sharma said the project, with 90% locally made components, marks a major step toward green energy self-reliance and aligns with PM Modi’s ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ and ‘Make in India’ vision.

“This plant demonstrates how green energy and domestic manufacturing can go hand in hand. Rajasthan is not only leading in solar potential but also in turning that potential into sustainable growth,” CM Sharma said during the inauguration ceremony.

Clean Power At Low Cost

The Pokhran plant will supply electricity to nearly 5 lakh families across the state.

ReNew Power will sell the generated electricity to state discoms at just ₹2.18 per unit-one of the lowest tariffs in India’s solar power sector.

This cost-efficiency strengthens Rajasthan’s long-term energy planning by making solar power more accessible and appealing.

In addition to contributing to clean energy production, the solar project will directly create around 1,500 jobs.

CM Sharma emphasized the employment opportunities arising from such large-scale renewable projects, stating that the sector can play a crucial role in rural development and skill-building for youth.

Rajasthan: A Solar Superpower

With abundant sunlight year-round and vast stretches of arid land, Rajasthan is naturally positioned to become India’s renewable energy capital.

CM Sharma reiterated the state’s commitment to accelerating solar and wind energy production.

“Unlike conventional thermal power, green energy sources are infinite. Our future lies in harnessing these sustainable options,” he said.

As India targets 500GW of non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030, Rajasthan’s efforts are becoming central to achieving national climate goals.

The Pokhran solar plant is meeting local power needs while setting benchmarks for sustainability and economic growth.

CM Sharma expressed confidence in Rajasthan’s leadership in driving India’s green energy transition.
