Bharat Innovative Glass Technologies to Invest Rs 1,003 Crore in Tamil Nadu

Bharat Innovative Glass Technologies Pvt Ltd, a US-based company, is set to establish a new manufacturing facility in Tamil Nadu with an investment of Rs 1,003 crore. The memorandum of understanding between the company and the Tamil Nadu government was formalized in the presence of Chief Minister M K Stalin. This venture, known as BIG TECH, is a collaboration between Optiemus Infracom Ltd and Corning International Corporation, a 172-year-old New York-based company famous for introducing Corning Gorilla Glass, widely used in devices like mobile phones, tablets, and laptops.

Corning Gorilla Glass is renowned for its damage and scratch resistance and is currently integrated into over 8 billion devices globally. The Director of Bharat Innovative Glass Technologies Pvt Ltd, Ashok Kumar Gupta, exchanged documents with V Vishnu, the MD and CEO of Guidance Tamil Nadu, during the signing ceremony with the Chief Minister and Minister for Industries TRB Rajaa in attendance.

The proposed manufacturing facility is expected to be established at SIPCOT Pillaipakkam in Kancheepuram district, focusing on the production of cover glass. The investment of Rs 1,003 crore is anticipated to generate employment for around 840 people. Minister for Industries TRB Rajaa expressed enthusiasm about this development, stating, “Another Global Electronics Giant chooses Tamil Nadu. Corning International, a 172-year-old Fortune 500 company, is setting foot in Tamil Nadu. This company is the brains behind the renowned Corning Gorilla Glass, revolutionizing the durability of portable devices like mobile phones.”

He added, “An MoU for this ground-breaking project was signed today in the esteemed presence of our honorable Chief Minister M K Stalin. Such prestigious projects are key to building a vibrant component ecosystem and will help us in attaining our Chief Minister’s ambition of a USD 1 trillion economy,” as mentioned in his social media post.

Bharat Innovative Glass Technologies Pvt Ltd aims to produce front-cover glass with advanced processes in India, supplying to display panel makers and mobile manufacturers. This initiative is expected to bring value, employment opportunities, and introduce precision glass-processing technology for the first time in the country.
