At 165 Million Kg In July 2023, Tea Production Increased By 6.2%

Tea production in the country climbed by 6.2 per cent to 165.01 million kilogrammes in July 2023, up from 155.29 million kilogrammes in a previous comparable period.

According to the most recent Tea Board data, North India tea production in July this year was 143.05 million kilogrammes, up from 135.77 million kilogrammes in the previous similar period.

South India’s production in July 2023 was also marginally higher, at 21.95 million kilogrammes, compared to 19.52 million kilogrammes in the previous comparable period.

In July 2023, the percentage of production by small tea growers (STGs) as a percentage of total volumes grew to 50.9 per cent. In the preceding identical month of 2022, this figure was 50.2 per cent.

Both Assam and West Bengal saw greater production in July 2023.

According to the data, the premium Darjeeling variety crop was one million kilogrammes in July 2023, down from 1.04 million kilogrammes in the previous equivalent time.
