Adani Group Plans Rs 1 Lakh Crore Investment In West Bengal, Gautam Adani Outlines Growth Vision

Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani said India’s next phase of economic expansion must create new growth centres in the east, with West Bengal playing a significant part in the country’s Viksit Bharat vision.

Addressing the Indian Chamber of Commerce in Kolkata on Thursday, Gautam Adani noted that western and southern India had driven much of the country’s economic progress for decades. He said Bengal’s location gives it a distinctive role, linking it with industrial and mineral-producing states to the west, the Northeast and markets across Southeast Asia and the Indo-Pacific through the Bay of Bengal.

Gautam Adani described the state as a strategic infrastructure hub with the potential to strengthen national and international connections.

The Adani Group intends to invest more than ₹1 lakh crore in West Bengal over the next ten years, Adani said.

The planned spending would cover ports, logistics, power generation, transmission and distribution, roads, bridges, ropeways, green cement and large-scale data centres.

Gautam Adani stressed that development should be judged by its impact on people’s lives, alongside industrial and infrastructure growth. He cited the group’s plan to establish Adani Arogya Mandir, a 2,000-bed medical institute in New Town. Half of its beds would serve people who cannot afford quality healthcare.

The Adani Group Chairman outlined proposed cultural initiatives, including the renewal of Kumartuli Ghat, a Durga Puja programme featuring Bengal’s artists and conservation support for the historic Writers’ Building.

Reflecting on his entrepreneurial journey, Gautam Adani recalled that Mundra in Gujarat became his first ‘karmabhoomi’ three decades ago. He expressed hope that Bengal could become his second, while developing through its own geography, intellectual resources, industrial history and cultural strengths.
