The Adani Foundation, with support from Adani Electricity, marked National Energy Conservation Day by engaging nearly 1.5 lakh students from Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) schools across Mumbai.
The observance, held on December 14, brought together students from 947 civic schools under the Foundation’s Corporate Social Responsibility initiative, Project Utthan.
The programme aimed to instil awareness about energy efficiency and responsible consumption among young learners, while reinforcing broader educational goals within the city’s public school system.
According to an official statement, students took part in a range of interactive activities designed to make energy conservation both accessible and engaging.
These included the ‘Switch Off Game’, science-based working models and a collective Energy Pledge, all intended to encourage practical understanding of sustainable habits.
The initiative was implemented in collaboration with the BMC, with municipal school teachers and Utthan Sahayaks working closely in classrooms to improve learning outcomes.
Organisers said the activities helped foster a culture of energy consciousness among students at an early age.
Launched in 2021 as a public-private partnership between the BMC, Adani Foundation, and Adani Electricity, Project Utthan aims to strengthen foundational literacy and numeracy. It focuses on primary students in Mumbai’s municipal schools.
The programme adopts activity-based learning methods, supported by resources such as Reading Corners and personalised academic assistance.
Dedicated Utthan Sahayaks work alongside teachers to improve retention, engagement and academic progress.
So far, the initiative has transformed learning environments in 83 BMC schools across Malad, Dahisar, Borivali, Chembur and Kurla. It has directly benefited more than 25,000 students.
Officials report measurable improvements in student participation, classroom inclusivity and overall learning outcomes.
Beyond academics, the project also emphasises teacher empowerment and community engagement, aiming to create holistic and joyful classrooms. The initiative aligns with efforts to strengthen Mumbai’s performance in the National Achievement Survey (NAS) 2027–28.
Building on its success, Project Utthan will expand its reach between the 2025–26 and 2027–28 academic years. It will cover Grades 1 to 4 across all 947 municipal schools and benefit over 1.5 lakh students, ensuring that no child is left behind.
