The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) announced on Thursday that Aadhaar authentication transactions rose sharply to 221 crore in August 2025, marking a 10.3% increase year-on-year compared to August 2024.
The figure also surpassed the number of transactions recorded in July 2025, underlining the growing reliance on Aadhaar in everyday services and governance.
UIDAI highlighted that the latest data reaffirms Aadhaar’s role as a critical enabler of India’s expanding digital economy.
Citizens are increasingly using Aadhaar authentication for welfare delivery, banking, telecom, and other essential services, making it one of the most widely used digital identity platforms globally.
Face authentication emerged as one of the fastest-growing segments within Aadhaar-linked services. UIDAI reported that 18.6 crore face authentication transactions were completed in August 2025, a significant jump from 6.04 crore in August 2024.
The momentum continued into September, when UIDAI recorded its highest-ever single-day face authentication usage of over 1.5 crore transactions on September 1, 2025. This surpassed the earlier record of 1.28 crore transactions on August 1.
UIDAI confirmed that more than 150 entities, spanning government ministries, state departments, banks, insurance firms, oil marketing companies, and telecom providers, are actively deploying face authentication solutions.
The adoption ensures seamless and secure delivery of benefits and services, particularly under government welfare schemes.
Alongside authentication growth, Aadhaar’s e-KYC (electronic Know Your Customer) transactions also showed strong numbers.
In August 2025, UIDAI recorded 38.53 crore e-KYC verifications, helping financial institutions, fintechs, and telecom companies onboard customers swiftly and securely.
UIDAI said the consistent growth of Aadhaar transactions demonstrates its pivotal role in India’s digital transformation journey. By enabling quick, secure, and paperless authentication, Aadhaar not only reduces costs but also strengthens transparency in service delivery.
The authority emphasised that the rising adoption of Aadhaar-based authentication reflects both user trust and institutional acceptance, further reinforcing its position as a cornerstone of India’s digital economy.
