A puja chamber is necessary to experience what it feels like to be under the watchful eye of God’s omnipresent power. A puja room turns into a constant source of joy in our life, a setting where dreams might come true. We do, however, make compromises on necessary puja room essentials due to space limitations and smaller apartments. Being unaware of such things may bring terrible fortune. Take note of the following list of items that one MUST NEVER keep in or close to the puja room!
One of the fundamental principles is that shoes shouldn’t be worn close to the puja chamber. Even if you are short on room, you must not place a shoe rack or an almirah that is only for shoes adjacent to this hallowed area. Will you enjoy having a shoe rack or a collection of shoes right next to your bed in your bedroom? Simple reasoning underlies it.
Hindu philosophy holds that we must avoid all interactions with impurities, and since leather is composed of animal skin, using leather in your puja area is wrong. Additionally, keeping leather items such as bags close to this lucky area is forbidden.
Hinduism holds that temples are constructed so that people can worship to many Gods, however if someone has a puja room in their home, there are a few guidelines that must be followed while residing in “grihastha jeevan.” One of the widely held notions is that a Shivaling should not be larger than the size of a thumb if it is to be installed in a home temple.
Since most of us do not have daily access to fresh flowers due to our busy schedules and urban lifestyles, we purchase them in preparation for puja and present them to the Gods the following day. This must be prevented. Stale flower offerings will only draw in negative energy and compromise the sacredness of the Gods’ residence.
In the puja room, many of us enjoy setting up picture frames of our departed ancestors next to images or icons of the Gods. Vaastu Shastra states that this needs to be corrected right away. Even while we prefer to pray for the deceased and help their souls find rest, hanging their images in the puja room can be unlucky and cost your family’s harmony and success.
One of the most popular sayings is this one. A broken or damaged idol must never be kept in the puja room. Such idols ought to be swapped out for a new one right away.
