ICC World Cup 2023 : Bangladesh Will Be Starting As Underdogs But They Are Quite Dangerous

From 1999 Bangladesh are participating in the ICC World Cup on a regular basis. Springing up surprises in every occasions. Less fancied in those days, Bangladesh stunned the eventual finalists Pakistan in the group stage of the 1999 edition. In the 2007 edition they dealt a double blow by knocking India out early and then stunning South Africain the super eight stage. In the 2011 and 2015 they outclassed England (knocking the England out before the quarter finals in 2015). In 2019 they trounced South Africa again and defeating the West Indies.

Fancied this time with Shaqib Al-Hasan leading the side (who amassed a total of 606 runs in the last edition) Bangladesh have some promising batters in the form of Najmul Hossain Shanto, Towhid Hridoy, Mohammad Naim, Afif Hossain, Mahedi Hasan, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, experienced Mushfiqur Rahim, Anamul Haque and Litton Das. Each of these batters have the potential of turning the table upside down in their given day. With Afif Hossain being a handy during the slog overs.

While bowling, Bangladesh do have potential bowlers in the form of Taskin Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman, Hasan Mahmud, Nasum Ahmed and Shoriful Islam. Each opposition batter would be living in a fools paradise if they underestimate these bowlers.

The only area where the Bangladeshis will be lacking is with their fielding as they don’t have any quality fielders.

Having said so, it appears that skipper Shaqib Al-Hassan is the fulcrum of the Bangladeshi challenge as if he fails so would be the entire team. With Mahmudullah having retired everything depends on the skipper.
