Political Buy One Get One Free: Three Parties With One Award And One Lesson

The BJP sweeps Gujarat with a record victory margin, whereas AAP in Delhi MCD elections had upper hand and Congress is also all set to form a government in Himachal Pradesh. The victories have come with lessons for all the three political parties.

The delight is seen in the statements of the winners at all three states. But none of them dare to accept the responsibility of failure on the other hand. This failure itself is a lesson for all the three parties.

The lesson of the election results of Gujarat, Delhi and Himachal Pradesh is clear for the winner as well as the looser. The BJP lost Delhi and Himachal with a historic win in Gujarat. BJP, Congress and AAP are the  three parties at the center of the verdict given by the people lately.

BJP, Congress and AAP has also having their own rules now in their respective provinces. The election of Delhi is overtly a local one but its importance is provincial. This local election of Delhi is no less than a provincial mirror. AAP has got more seats than BJP in Delhi but its victory cannot be called miraculous. BJP’s votes have increased as compared to the last election but AAP’s have decreased.

The allegations leveled against AAP ministers discourages them with celestial ambitions. Had the BJP campaigned positively and presented an alternative vision, it might have got more seats. The BJP had tried to bring a local administration for the whole of Delhi by combining all the three local corporations so that it could field a strong mayor to compete with Arvind Kejriwal. This strategy of BJP has failed.

Congress’s tally has clear message in both Delhi and Gujarat. It seemes that the Congress would emerge as the second party in Gujarat, but even the BJP also did not have any idea that the Sonia party would end up in such a plight. Congress neither had any big face in Gujarat nor did Rahul Gandhi  show any activism during the election campaign.

In Gujarat the Aam Aadmi Party was badly hit beyond their own especulation. In the Modi state, the Aam Aadmi Party Kejariwal had  made a big claim expecting their victory in a big way, but Modi and Shah had made Gujarat a question of their honor.

Going by the political poll history of India, no prime minister of India sweated as much as Modi did in his provincial elections. AAP’s propaganda machinery was so strong that it made the BJP sweat. This maneuver of Arvind Kejriwal is also very funny that he has sought Modi’s blessings in running the local administration of Delhi. AAP did not get the expected success in this election but its all India image has definitely got strengthened.

It seems that Arvind Kejriwal’s name may emerge as a strong alternative against Modi in the next general elections. Still, there is no indication in these three elections that Modi can be ousted in 2024.

The real reasons for BJP’s defeat in Delhi and Himachal are local. Congress definitely wants to challenge Modi, but it neither has a leader nor a policy. The real reason for its success in Himachal is the internal disputes and weak governance of the BJP.

Unless all major opposition parties are united, Modi does not see any challenge in 2024. These three elections have made all the three parties proud and have also taught a lesson to them simultaneously.
