Government announces free food grain for the poor
Free Food Grains: This is such a decision which will always be welcomed by everyone. The announcement of free ration to 81 crore people of the country and pension benefits to about 25 lakh ex-servicemen, is an appreciable announcement by Indian Government.
Free Food Grains: Probably in the history of global democracies, no government has made such an announcement so far. The previous governments have definitely announced various concessions in times of a crisis, but 80 crore people of India will get 35 kg food grains free of cost for the whole year, is such a grand gift to people of the country.
Even during the two years of the Corona period, the government had provided a lot of help to the countrymen by giving them food grains at the lowest possible prices, but now they will also get that food grains free of cost, only if such a decision gets the nod of the Parliament.
There is a question as well – How the government will be able to distribute so much food grains for free? At present, about 40 million tonnes of food grains are lying in the government stores. The government does not need to globally beg for food grains to feed its people. Gone are the days of Indira Gandhi government, when India had to import PL 480 wheat from America. In that period hundreds of people used to die during famine.
Now today’s India is a country which is also known as a big exporter of food grains. India has also gifted 50 thousand tonnes of wheat to some neighboring countries. This time the government will spend Rs 2 lakh crore on free grain distribution.
There can also be a wise option as a part of the grand idea, instead of giving absolutely free food grains to the needy people, it should be given to them with the lowest price of Rs.5 to 7 per kg as before. Otherwise it can be misused and there are many ways in that direction for the misuse.

There might also be different types of corruption on this free food grain idea. People will collect it and sell it at market rate. The connivance of officers, businessmen and brokers will not allow it to reach the real poor.
