Joe Biden with Volodymyr Zelenskyy
Secretary of State Antony Blinken stated on Wednesday that the United States will deliver up to $250 million in arms and equipment to Ukraine in the final batch of aid this year to assist Kyiv in its conflict with Russia.
President Joe Biden has asked Congress for an extra $61 billion in aid to Ukraine, but Republicans are refusing to approve it unless Democrats agree to improve border security along the US-Mexico border.
The White House has cautioned that without the additional allocation, US aid for Ukraine’s effort to recapture land captured by Russian forces since its invasion in February 2022 will run out by the end of the year.
According to Blinken, the newest aid shipment contained air defence munitions, additional ammunition for high-mobility artillery rocket systems, artillery ammunition, anti-armor munitions, and over 15 million rounds of ammunition.
Since Russia’s invasion, Congress has approved more than $110 billion in aid to Ukraine, but no money has been approved since Republicans took control of the House of Representatives from Democrats in January 2023.
