Japan’s coast guard stated that a U.S. military Osprey plane crashed into the sea near Japan’s Yakushima island on Wednesday, killing all eight persons on board.
A Coast Guard official stated that no further information about the incident, including the safety of passengers onboard, was available.
According to the report, the incident took place around 2:47 p.m. local time, with local residents saying that flames were blowing from the aircraft’s left engine as it plunged into the sea.
A representative for the U.S. military in Japan did not immediately comment.
