US Navy Ready To Escort Ships Through Strait Of Hormuz, Says White House

The White House confirmed that President Donald Trump is prepared to deploy US Navy escorts through the Strait of Hormuz if necessary.

Deputy Press Secretary Anna Kelly said the US military has neutralised over 20 inactive mine-laying boats and remains ready for further operations.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent indicated the Navy could escort vessels, potentially in collaboration with an international coalition, once conditions ensure safe passage.

“We’ve conducted scenario analysis for months,” he added, highlighting that contingency plans were already in place.

Shipping through the Strait has slowed after recent attacks on vessels, including a cargo ship struck by an unknown projectile near Dubai, causing a fire and crew evacuation.

Authorities have advised heightened vigilance, and investigations are underway. The situation has sparked concerns in India, heavily reliant on energy shipments through this route.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, expressing concern over escalating tensions and civilian risks.

PM Modi emphasised India’s priority for the safety of its nationals and uninterrupted energy transit, urging dialogue and diplomacy.

New Delhi has intensified outreach across West Asia, with PM Modi engaging leaders from Oman, Kuwait, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Jordan, Israel, and Qatar.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar also held discussions with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on shipping safety and India’s energy security.

With US naval preparedness and active diplomatic engagement, authorities aim to stabilise maritime operations in the Strait of Hormuz.

The measures underline the critical importance of safeguarding global energy flows while managing regional tensions through a combination of military readiness and diplomacy.
