US Military Aircraft Downed Over Iran As Rescue Operations Continue

Two separate US military aircraft incidents were reported over Iran in a single day, leading to an ongoing effort to recover a missing crew member and raising tensions over the circumstances of the losses.

One of the aircraft, an F-15E Strike Eagle operated by the US Air Force, went down after both personnel on board ejected. Rescue teams located one crew member alive, while the second individual has yet to be found.

In another incident, an A-10 Thunderbolt II was also lost in the region.

According to accounts cited by local outlets, the pilot from that aircraft was recovered without injury.

Early indications from US sources suggest the aircraft may have been hit by fire originating from Iran.

Iranian authorities, meanwhile, said they had successfully targeted an American fighter jet and circulated images claimed to show wreckage. Those images have not been independently confirmed.

There was no immediate public response from either US Central Command or the Pentagon following the reports.

Online videos, said to be from the southwestern parts of Iran, showed US aircraft flying at low altitude. These movements are believed to be linked to combat search-and-rescue operations currently underway.

The US maintains dedicated rescue units in the region, including aircraft such as the HC-130J Combat King II and HH-60 helicopters.

Sources familiar with the situation indicated that one rescue helicopter came under fire during the mission but managed to land.

The incidents mark a notable escalation, representing the first known loss of a US crewed aircraft in the ongoing conflict.

Earlier episodes had involved damage to aircraft and other accidents, including friendly fire and a mid-air collision. They, however, did not result in comparable operational losses in combat over Iran.

Iranian Claims and Narrative

Iranian state media described the event as a milestone, claiming it was the first successful downing of a US fighter jet since the conflict intensified.

Reports also suggested Iranian forces were attempting to locate the missing American service member in the crash area.

US officials, however, continue to assert that their forces retain operational control of the airspace in many areas. They have also carried out more than 12,000 strikes on targets across Iran.
