US Envoy To Meet Ukrainian Delegates In New York On Renewed Peace Efforts

The United States president’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff, has confirmed he will meet with Ukrainian representatives in New York this week, as renewed diplomatic efforts aim to bring an end to the ongoing Ukraine conflict.

“I’m meeting with the Ukrainians this week. So I will be meeting with them this week in New York,” Witkoff stated during an interview with Fox News.

He also revealed that American and Russian officials remain in regular communication, expressing hope that a peace agreement could be within reach, possibly by the end of the year, or even sooner.

According to Witkoff, Ukraine is currently considering a peace proposal from Russia, while Moscow has shown willingness to resolve the conflict through negotiations, reported Xinhua news agency.

However, he emphasised that the Ukraine conflict involves more than just territorial issues.

“Final decisions will be made by Kyiv, not Washington,” he added, underlining the autonomy of the Ukrainian government in deciding its course.

Putin & Trump Reaffirm Dialogue

The latest diplomatic developments come on the heels of a recent phone conversation between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump on August 19.

The call, initiated by Trump, reaffirmed both leaders’ commitment to continuing direct talks between Russian and Ukrainian delegations.

Yuri Ushakov, aide to President Putin, confirmed that Trump also briefed his Russian counterpart on recent discussions he had with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and several European leaders during meetings in Washington.

During the conversation, President Putin expressed his gratitude to Trump for the hospitality extended during the Alaska Summit. He also noted the progress achieved during the summit in moving toward a peaceful resolution of the Ukraine conflict.

As peace discussions gain traction on multiple fronts, the coming weeks could prove pivotal in shaping the future of the region.
