US Appreciates Pakistan’s Consideration For Gaza Stabilisation Force

The United States has welcomed Pakistan’s willingness to consider joining an international stabilisation force in Gaza, aimed at supporting post-conflict security and governance in the Palestinian enclave.

Speaking at a year-end press conference, Secretary of State Marco Rubio expressed gratitude for Pakistan’s offer to participate.

“We’re very grateful to Pakistan for their offer to be a part of it or at least their offer to consider being a part of it,” he said.

Rubio emphasised that discussions with Pakistan and other prospective contributors remain at an early stage, with several operational details yet to be clarified.

“In fairness to all the countries we’ve talked to about being and having a presence on the ground, I think they want to know specifically what the mandate is, what the specific mandate was, the funding mechanism looks like,” he explained.

The Secretary indicated that the US has received interest from multiple nations willing to contribute once clarity is provided.

“I feel very confident that we have several nation states acceptable to all sides in this conflict who are willing to step forward and be a part of that stabilisation force,” he added.

Rubio noted that Pakistan’s involvement would depend on further information. He said Pakistan is certainly key if it agrees to participate, but the US must provide a few more answers before finalising commitments, underlining the importance of defining responsibilities.

The US plans to first establish governance arrangements in Gaza. “The next step here is announcing the Board of Peace, announcing the Palestinian technocratic group that will help provide daily governance,” Rubio said.

Once these structures are in place, the focus will shift to the stabilisation force, including funding, rules of engagement, and demilitarisation roles.

Background to the Gaza Conflict

The Gaza conflict erupted following Hamas attacks on Israel in October 2023, leading to an extensive Israeli military response.

The United States has actively negotiated ceasefires, facilitated humanitarian access, and planned post-war governance.

Washington maintains that any long-term solution must prevent the resurgence of Hamas as a military threat while enabling civilian administration and reconstruction efforts.
