US Action Against TRF; A Major Blow To Pakistani Army And Asim Munir

The United States has officially designated The Resistance Front (TRF) as a Foreign Terrorist Organisation (FTO) and Specially Designated Global Terrorist (SDGT) entity. The move delivers a major blow to the Pakistani Army and its Chief, General Asim Munir.

Intelligence intercepts, human sources, and forensic evidence confirm TRF’s direct links to the Pakistani military establishment. Investigations point to Gen Munir’s personal involvement in guiding the group’s operations.

The timing of the Pahalgam attack in Jammu and Kashmir coincided with unrest in Pakistan and global criticism of Munir’s crackdown on democratic forces. Analysts believe the attack aimed to divert attention from Pakistan’s internal turmoil.

The US decision also validates India’s calibrated response through Operation Sindoor, targeting terror launchpads across the Line of Control. This recognition marks a diplomatic and strategic win for India while isolating Pakistan globally.

TRF’s Origin and Pakistan’s Role

On 22 April, TRF carried out a brutal attack in Pahalgam, killing 26 people based on their religion. Defence officials said this was part of a broader Pakistan-sponsored plan to destabilise the region and promote a false narrative of indigenous rebellion.

TRF emerged after the Indian government abrogated Article 370 in August 2019. Pakistan’s information warfare projected it as a ‘homegrown’ outfit. In reality, TRF is a repackaged version of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), a proscribed terrorist group.

Experts describe TRF as an example of Pakistan’s strategy of rebranding terror groups to avoid international scrutiny and maintain plausible deniability.

Despite its new name, TRF operates under LeT’s command structure, logistics, and financial network, mostly controlled from Pakistan-occupied territories with ISI support.

US Action Exposes Pakistan

The US cited TRF’s involvement in the Pahalgam massacre while announcing the designation. The statement linked TRF to LeT and confirmed Gen Munir’s role in orchestrating the attack. Analysts say Munir timed the attack to divert attention from his failing crackdown on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and justify his controversial bid for Field Marshal rank.

Experts argue his actions prove that Pakistan’s Army has evolved into a state-backed terror syndicate, prioritising personal ambition over national interest. The TRF myth has collapsed. It is neither local nor resistant; it is Lashkar-e-Taiba under a new banner.

India’s Operation Sindoor was preventive, proportional, and legitimate. The international community must now recognise Pakistan as a terror-exporting state rather than a victim. The Pahalgam carnage confirms what India has long maintained: terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir is imported, not indigenous.

TRF is the latest mask worn by LeT, and Asim Munir is its chief architect. His misuse of state institutions and terror groups for personal gain highlights Pakistan’s deep descent into militarised extremism.

India remains committed to protecting its sovereignty and dismantling every terror proxy through force, diplomacy, and strategic narrative.
