United States defence officials stated on Monday that a land-based cruise missile launched from Houthi-controlled Yemen targeted a commercial tanker vessel, causing a fire and damage but no casualties.
According to the official, the attack on the motor transport STRINDA occurred roughly 60 nautical miles north of Bab al-Mandab Strait.
The official went on to say that the US Navy destroyer Mason was on the site and providing assistance rendering aid.
Amid regional tensions over the Israel-Hamas war, Yemen’s Houthi movement has targeted international ships.
On Saturday, the Houthis declared that they would strike all ships bound for Israel, regardless of nationality, and warned all international shipping corporations not to do business with Israeli ports.
It was unclear whether the STRINDA had any ties to Israel or if it was bound for an Israeli port.
