The Ukrainian military, suffering after the loss of a vital town, is now facing extremely difficult conditions all along the border with Russia due to delayed international assistance, President Volodymyr Zelensky said Monday.
A heightened Russian push in eastern and southern Ukraine saw them capture the strategic town of Avdiivka last week, providing a significant boost ahead of the second anniversary of the February 2022 invasion.
The Ukrainian military also claims to be severely short on ammunition and shells, which has been exacerbated by the delay in receiving a $60 billion US aid package.
Following his visit to frontline troops in the Kharkiv region, Zelensky said, “The situation is extremely difficult in several parts of the front line, where Russian troops have concentrated maximum reserves”.
“Russian troops are taking advantage of the delays in helping Ukraine”, Zelensky continued, citing artillery, frontline air defence, and longer-range weapons shortages.
