An explosion of a drone
Military officials said Russia launched the most significant drone attack on Kyiv over the weekend of Saturday and Sunday.
40 of the 54 drones launched were directed against the capital, killing two individuals and injuring three others.
On Sunday, In a Telegram post, Ukraine’s air force said, “In total, a record number of explosive drones launched were counted: 54!”
The regional military administration said, “It’s the most important drone attack against the capital since the start of the invasion in February 2022”.
“The attack took place over several waves and the air raid alert lasted more than five hours!”, the regional military administration added.
“According to preliminary indications more than 40 Russian drones were destroyed by air defence systems over Kyiv”, the administration claimed.
The administration further said, “Following the destruction of the drones, debris fell on a seven-story building in the capital’s Golosiivskii district, killing one person and injuring another”.
“A fire broke out in a warehouse zone, throwing flames 1,000 metres (3,300 feet) into the sky and killing one person”, the administration continued.
It went on to say that the emergency services are at all the sites.
Kyiv’s mayor, Vitali Klitschko said, “A 41-year-old male died and a 35-year-old woman was injured and hospitalised in the Solomianskii district”.
According to the authorities, this was Russia’s 14th drone attack on Ukraine’s capital by Russia this month.
The air force said that 54 assault drones were launched from the regions of Briansk and Krasnodar in Russia, and 52 were destroyed.
According to the statement, Moscow was focusing on military installations and critical infrastructure in the country’s centre, particularly the region around Kyiv.
