UK Maritime Monitors: Carrier And Ferry Exchanging Fire In Arabian Sea

British maritime monitors stated on Saturday that a security team on a bulk carrier opened fire on armed persons on a skiff as it approached the vessel suspiciously in the Arabian Sea.

“The skiff closed to 300 metres, before turning back towards a mothership”, said security firm Ambrey, adding that the carrier and its crew had been confirmed safe. It reported the incident occurred 700 nautical miles southeast of Salalah in Oman.

The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) authority stated it got a report of an incident involving a small craft and a merchant vessel 780 nautical miles east of Hafun, Somalia.

“The small craft approached the vessel within 300 metres”, UKMTO continued.

“The onboard security team fired warning shots, and the small craft departed after an exchange of fire”, UKMTO added.
