The United Arab Emirates on Thursday strongly condemned Iran’s attack targeting key energy infrastructure, including the Habshan gas facility and the Bab field, and announced a temporary suspension of operations following the incident.
According to the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the country’s air defence systems successfully intercepted the missiles, preventing casualties.
Falling debris from the interceptions prompted authorities to halt operations at the Habshan facility as a precautionary measure.
The Ministry described the strike as a ‘terrorist attack’ and termed it a dangerous escalation that violates international law. It asserted that the UAE reserves the right to take all necessary measures to protect its sovereignty, national security, and strategic interests.
Officials emphasised that targeting critical oil and gas infrastructure poses a direct threat not only to regional stability but also to global energy security.
The Ministry warned that such actions could destabilise supply chains and increase volatility in international energy markets.
The statement highlighted that attacks on energy facilities linked to Iran’s South Pars gas field represent a significant escalation with far-reaching consequences.
The UAE had earlier cautioned that any strike on infrastructure connected to the field, which extends into Qatar’s territory, could endanger both regional peace and global energy supplies.
The Ministry underscored the need to avoid targeting critical infrastructure under any circumstances and reiterated the importance of upholding international law and ensuring the safety of civilians, industrial assets, and navigation routes.
Officials also warned that such attacks could lead to environmental risks and expose urban centres and vital facilities to serious threats.
Reaffirming its commitment to stability, the UAE called for restraint and dialogue to prevent further escalation.
