The United Arab Emirates on Friday strongly condemned the terrorist attack on an Indian-flagged vessel off the coast of Oman, just hours before Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled visit to Abu Dhabi for high-level bilateral talks.
In a statement issued on its official social media platforms, the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs described the assault as a serious threat to international maritime security and freedom of navigation.
The Ministry called the incident a dangerous escalation aimed at destabilising key international waterways.
The UAE expressed full solidarity with India and reaffirmed its support for all measures aimed at ensuring the safety and security of Indian vessels and maritime interests. It also stated that the attack violated UN Security Council Resolution 2817, which upholds freedom of navigation and opposes attacks on commercial shipping and international maritime routes.
Without naming any specific group or country, the UAE warned against using the Strait of Hormuz as a tool for economic coercion or blackmail.
The Ministry described such actions as piracy and a direct threat to regional stability, global trade and energy security.
India’s Ministry of External Affairs also condemned the attack and said targeting commercial vessels and civilian mariners was unacceptable.
The Ministry confirmed that all Indian crew members on board the vessel were safe and thanked Omani authorities for rescuing them.
The MEA urged all sides not to disrupt commercial shipping and freedom of navigation and said India is closely monitoring the situation.
As PM Modi visits the UAE, he and President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan are expected to discuss maritime security, regional stability, trade and energy cooperation.
