Trump Shares 2019 Kim Jong-un Photo, Says ‘We Get Along GREAT’

US President Donald Trump has shared a photo of his 2019 meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un at the inter-Korean border village of Panmunjom, reiterating his claim that the two leaders have a strong personal rapport.

Trump posted the image on Truth Social and acknowledged the serious expressions in the photograph while saying there were many other occasions when he and Kim were seen smiling together. He wrote that he and the North Korean leader ‘get along GREAT’.

The post comes as the White House continues to maintain that Trump remains open to talks with Kim without preconditions.

The possibility of renewed negotiations remains uncertain as North Korea strengthens its economic, diplomatic and military ties with Russia.

Trump held three face-to-face meetings with Kim during his first presidential term.

The leaders first met in Singapore in June 2018, followed by a summit in Hanoi in February 2019 and a meeting at Panmunjom in June 2019.

The Panmunjom meeting attracted global attention after Trump crossed the Military Demarcation Line and briefly entered North Korean territory alongside Kim. It marked the first time a sitting US president had stepped into North Korea.

Trump shared a photograph from his first meeting with Kim in Singapore in June, fuelling speculation that he could seek to revive his personal diplomacy with the North Korean leader.

Analyst Victor Cha said Kim could consider renewed summit talks with Trump after the US midterm elections if Pyongyang seeks to strengthen its nuclear-armed status.

Trump’s latest post has once again drawn attention to his past engagement with Kim as questions remain over whether the two sides could reopen direct dialogue.
