US President Donald Trump unveiled TrumpRx.gov at the White House, describing it as the largest reduction in drug prices in US history and a major step toward making medicines affordable for all Americans.
The website allows consumers to access discounted prescription medicines immediately through digital or printable coupons redeemable at participating pharmacies and mail-order providers, ensuring that Americans pay the same lowest price that any other country pays for the same drug.
The initiative applies a ‘most favoured nation’ pricing model, with 16 of the world’s 17 largest pharmaceutical companies signing agreements to comply, and the remaining company expected to join shortly.
Under this framework, new drugs introduced in the United States must also be offered at the lowest global price.
President Trump highlighted that tariffs played a key role in securing these agreements, pressuring other countries to lower drug costs while encouraging companies to invest domestically.
Centres for Medicare and Medicaid Services Administrator Mehmet Oz noted that consumers can now directly access steep discounts, reducing financial barriers that previously prevented many Americans from affording essential medications.
Major manufacturers, including AstraZeneca, Eli Lilly, EMD Serono, Novo Nordisk and Pfizer, initially offer over 40 commonly used prescription drugs on the website, with plans to add more over time.
The programme aids families needing fertility treatments, with one military spouse noting that lower drug prices can determine whether couples continue IVF.
Trump highlighted that it also boosts domestic pharmaceutical investment, creates manufacturing jobs, and strengthens national security.
By lowering costs, expanding access, and encouraging local production, TrumpRx.gov offers immediate savings for consumers and long-term economic benefits.
