US President Donald Trump has described the sweeping American military assault on Iran as one of the largest and most complex offensives ever carried out, declaring that Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei is dead and vowing to continue combat operations until all objectives are achieved.
In a national address posted on Truth Social, Trump outlined what he called a 36-hour campaign under the name “Operation Epic Fury,” characterising it as unprecedented in scale.
“Nobody’s seen anything like it. We have hit hundreds of targets in Iran, including Revolutionary Guard facilities, Iranian air defense systems,” he said.
He added that “we knocked out nine ships plus their naval building, all in a matter of literally minutes.”
Trump announced that “Iran’s formerly supreme leader, Ayatollah Khamenei, is dead,” calling him “this wretched and vile man” who “had the blood of hundreds and even thousands of Americans on his hands and was responsible for the slaughter of countless thousands of innocent people all across many countries.”
He further claimed that celebrations erupted in parts of Iran following the announcement of Khamenei’s death and asserted that the entire Iranian military command had been eliminated, with many seeking surrender and immunity.
“They want immunity. They’re calling by the thousands,” he said.
The President confirmed American losses, stating that “earlier today, CENTCOM shared the news that three US military service members have been killed in action.”
“As one nation, we grieve for the true American patriots who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation, even as we continue the righteous mission for which they gave their lives,” Trump added.
He acknowledged the likelihood of further casualties, saying, “And sadly, there will likely be more. Before it ends, that’s the way it is,” while promising efforts to minimise losses.
Framing the offensive as necessary to prevent future threats, Trump said the US could not allow a nation supporting terrorist groups to possess weapons capable of global coercion.
He urged Iran’s Revolutionary Guard and military police to lay down their arms and accept immunity or face certain death, and appealed directly to Iranians seeking freedom to seize the moment, assuring them of American support.
