US President Donald Trump has announced a proposed diesel supply arrangement with Russian President Vladimir Putin, claiming that the shipments would increase fuel availability and drive down prices in the United States and global markets.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump said he had concluded a ‘highly successful discussion’ with Putin, during which Russia agreed to supply more than 300,000 tonnes of diesel immediately. He said another 500,000 tonnes would arrive in November, followed by one million tonnes shortly afterwards.
Trump added that Russia would deliver a further three million tonnes within a short period, depending on the condition of its diesel refineries.
The proposed shipments would total more than 4.8 million tonnes.
The US President linked the announcement to what he described as American ‘TOTAL CONTROL’ of the Strait of Hormuz, predicting that diesel prices would fall rapidly in the US and worldwide.
“Lower prices for Americans, especially our Great Farmers, Ranchers, and Truckers, is my Greatest Priority,” Trump wrote, describing the announcement as ‘very big and important’.
Trump reiterated his position on Iran’s nuclear programme, declaring that “Iran will not have a Nuclear Weapon!”
The post did not clarify whether the issue featured in his discussion with Putin or whether the two leaders had reached any separate understanding concerning Tehran.
The proposed arrangement, as outlined by Trump, centres on increasing diesel supplies and reducing fuel costs.
Further details about the agreement, including its implementation and delivery schedule, were not provided in the post.
