President-elect Donald Trump appointed Susie Wiles, his campaign manager, as White House Chief of Staff, making her the first woman to hold the influential role. Trump praised Wiles as a “winner campaign manager” and called her appointment a “well-deserved honor.” He noted her reputation as “tough, smart, innovative, and universally admired.” Trump’s campaign announced the appointment on X.
This appointment marks Trump’s first for his new administration. As Chief of Staff, Wiles will serve as the President’s gatekeeper, managing his schedule and serving as a liaison to Congress and government agencies. Trump’s transition team continues its search for key cabinet positions as he prepares for office. Trump credited Wiles with delivering “one of the greatest political victories in American history.”
Wiles, 67, has a lengthy career in political strategy. She began her career with President Ronald Reagan’s campaign and later managed Trump’s 2016 campaign in Florida. In 2022, Trump appointed her to lead his Save America PAC. Vice President-elect JD Vance praised her appointment, calling Wiles a “huge asset” to Trump.
During his last term, Trump went through four Chiefs of Staff, including General John Kelly, who later criticized him. Wiles’ appointment reflects Trump’s trust in her loyalty and experience as she assumes one of Washington’s most demanding roles.
Trump’s team has yet to confirm other appointments. Secretary of State is a top priority, with names like Senator Marco Rubio, Ric Grenell, and former Secretary Mike Pompeo reportedly under consideration.
