Christmas Eve
Even though he is the sovereign of the United Kingdom, King Charles III nevertheless indulges in some holiday mischief because, well, why not? Grant Harrold, his former butler, revealed the unusual Christmas gifts that the UK royal family would leave for them. King Charles would smuggle presents into the lockers of employees at his Gloucestershire home, Highgrove.
The former Prince of Wales would “leave funny little things in the pigeonholes where I’d get my post in the mornings,” Grant Harrold told media. King Charles even left a salmon tin once, and the following year he provided a ribbon-tied salt and pepper grinder.
“I just thought it was so bizarre because you don’t expect those little things. It shows that they’ve got that fun, practical side to them,” the ex-butler said. Following this, King Charles would eventually give his employees “actual proper gifts” in addition to Christmas cards.
“[I would get] things like tea cups and saucers or whiskey glasses. One year I got a lovely water jug,” he recalled, adding, that Prince William and Prince Harry would give out “special” holidays memos to the employees.

According to royal biographer Brian Hoey, the late Queen Elizabeth II would offer each employee a plate of Christmas pudding along with a personalized holiday card. Additionally, each employee would get a gift card whose value corresponded to the length of time they had worked for her.
The royal family leaves London for their Norfolk winter residence, Sandringham, over the holidays. There, the family celebrates Christmas while adhering to other customs. The royal family spends Christmas Eve at a formal banquet and Christmas Day church service at St. Mary Magdalene.
