Tel Aviv Bomb Blast Confirmed As Terror Attack By Israeli Authorities

Israeli authorities have confirmed Tel Aviv Bomb Blast was a “terrorist attack” targeting a synagogue. Both the police and the Shin Bet internal security agency have labeled the incident as terrorism.

According to a joint statement, the attacker, who had the bomb strapped to his body, was killed in the explosion. Additionally, a passerby was injured in the blast. “It can now be confirmed that this was a terror attack involving a powerful explosive device,” the statement said, as reported by Xinhua news agency.

The suspect has been identified as a Palestinian man from the Nablus region in the northern part of the occupied West Bank. The explosion occurred near a synagogue on Sunday night. Israeli security officials believe that the bomb detonated prematurely, suggesting that the attacker intended to set it off inside the synagogue.

The Ezzedeen Al-Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of Hamas, along with the Palestinian Islamic Jihad, claimed responsibility for the attack. The militant groups stated that they used an eight-kilogram bomb in the assault. They also warned of continuing attacks on Israel, citing ongoing “massacres, displacement of population, and assassinations.”

The bombing coincided with the beginning of US Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s visit to Israel. This visit marks a new diplomatic effort by Qatari, Egyptian, and American mediators to negotiate a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas. The negotiations aim to secure the release of hostages and Palestinian prisoners.

The timing of the attack underscores the heightened tensions and challenges facing the ongoing peace efforts in the region.
