Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defence (MND) has identified 19 Chinese military aircraft and seven navy vessels near the country in the last 24 hours, up to 6 a.m. (local time) today.
According to Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defence, 12 of the 19 Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) aircraft crossed the Taiwan Strait median line.
Following China’s response, Taiwan sent planes and navy ships, as well as air defence missile systems, to monitor the People’s Liberation Army’s activities.
Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defence tweeted, “19 PLA aircraft and 7 PLAN vessels operating around Taiwan were detected up until 6 a.m. today. 12 of the aircraft crossed the median line of the Taiwan Strait and entered Taiwan’s northern, southwestern, and eastern ADIZ”, through its official ‘X’ handle.
Taiwan has spotted Chinese military aircraft 253 times and naval ships 150 times in February. China has increased the amount of military aircraft and naval ships operating around Taiwan as part of its grey zone strategy.
Admiral Samuel Paparo, the US nominee to lead US Indo-Pacific Command, warned on February 14 that China may soon be able to conceal an invasion of Taiwan through military manoeuvres.
