Suicide Bombing At Wedding In Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Kills Six

A festive wedding ceremony in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) province descended into tragedy after a suicide bomber detonated explosives, killing at least six people and injuring several others.

The attack occurred late on Friday night in Dera Ismail Khan district, according to local media reports.

The explosion struck the residence of Noor Alam Mehsud, head of the Aman (Peace) Committee, who was among those injured in the incident. The sudden blast sent shockwaves through the gathering, leaving guests scrambling for safety amid scenes of fear and confusion.

As the wedding rituals were underway, the powerful explosion tore through the venue, causing widespread panic.

Broadcaster Geo News reported that many of the wounded were immediately transported to nearby hospitals, where medical teams worked to stabilise them.

Security officials said initial assessments point towards a suicide bombing, although investigations are still ongoing. Police added that the assailants also opened fire after the blast, further escalating the violence.

Law enforcement agencies sealed off the area as forensic experts combed the site for evidence. Investigators remained present for several hours to determine the identity of the attacker and establish links to any militant groups.

According to The Express Tribune, the severed head of the suspected suicide bomber was recovered from the scene. The attacker is believed to be around 17 years old, and the remains were sent for forensic testing to confirm identification.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Condemns Attack

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi condemned the attack in strong terms. He also demanded an urgent report from the provincial police chief. He instructed authorities to ensure that the injured receive the highest standard of medical care.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and neighbouring Balochistan, both bordering Afghanistan, have witnessed a surge in militant violence in recent years.

Noor Alam Mehsud has previously been targeted, including a failed suicide attack on his office in 2022.

Data from the Centre for Research and Security Studies shows that Pakistan recorded a sharp rise in violence last year. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa emerged as the most affected province, underlining the growing security challenges facing the region.
