Sri Lanka says thanks to India after India did offer all the support possible to the neighbour. A Sri Lankan envoy presented the feelings of his country about India. He said –‘‘Whereas the IMF agreement helped us to recover our confidence, India helped us to recover from the immediate pain.’’
Not to mention, when earlier in the year 2022, Sri Lanka was facing the worst ever economic crisis, it was India who did not wait and watch. India offered its hand with all possible help to Sri Lanka. The country had plunged into unprecedented turmoil, with an acute shortage of fuel and medicine. This situation triggered nationwide protests, which compelled the President Gotabaya Rajapaksa to run away from. After his resignation, the country was politically taken over by Ranil Wickremesinghe.
