On Friday, the Mauritian government announced a special one-off leave of two hours for public officers of the Hindu faith to participate in local events commemorating the inauguration of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, on January 22, 2024. The decision by the Cabinet allows Hindu public officers to attend these events from 1400 hours, subject to service exigencies. The ceremony in Ayodhya holds immense significance as it symbolizes the return of Lord Ram to Ayodhya.
In a statement, the Mauritian government expressed that the Ayodhya Ram Mandir’s inauguration is a landmark event, reflecting the return of Lord Ram. The ceremony, known as ‘pran pratishtha,’ involves the ceremonial installation of Lord Ram inside the temple’s sanctum sanctorum. Dignitaries, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, are expected to attend the event, creating widespread anticipation across India.

Notably, the consecration ceremony will be broadcast at Times Square in New York City, marking the second time Lord Ram is featured on the iconic Times Square billboards. The first instance was during the Bhoomi Pujan (ground-breaking ceremony) in 2020.

Furthermore, the opening of the Ram Mandir has garnered international attention. Thailand’s ambassador to the United States, Tanee Sangrat, expressed joy, describing it as a delight for people in various countries, including Thailand and across Southeast Asia and the Asia Pacific region. The event is seen as a celebration of shared cultural heritage and the symbolic return of Lord Rama.
