Shocking attack unfolds: Two Korean police officers stabbed outside Presidential office in Seoul

Tuesday saw the detention of a man by South Korean authorities following the stabbing deaths of two police officers outside the presidential office complex in Seoul, the country’s capital, according to municipal police.

At 1:20 p.m. (0420 GMT), two officers were stabbed—one in the stomach, the other in the left arm—after attempting to restrain a man in his 70s who was yelling in front of the compound, according to the Yonhap news agency.

It stated that the two cops were receiving medical attention in a hospital.

The incident was confirmed by the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, but no information was provided regarding the attack’s possible motivation or the location of the Ministry of Defense within the compound.

A man was shown on SBS News being restrained, and there was a knife on the ground close by.

The presidential mansion, the Blue House, was demolished last year and replaced with the presidential office in Seoul’s Yongsan district by President Yoon Suk Yeol.

It was unclear whether the president was in Yoon’s office at the time, and his administration did not respond right away.

Protests and rallies over politics are frequently held in the area outside the compound.

Only a few days after a stabbing incident in Seoul, a guy went on a stabbing rampage in a commuter town close to Seoul this year, injuring fourteen people.

South Korea, which has a reputation for safety due to its low murder rate and stringent weapons laws, was taken aback by the stabbing incidents.
