S Jaishankar Arrives In Mongolia To Strengthen Bilateral Ties

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar reached Mongolia’s capital, Ulaanbaatar, on Monday as part of a diplomatic visit aimed at advancing cooperation between the two countries.

Senior Mongolian official Munktushig Ilkhanajav, State Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, received him upon his arrival.

In a post on X, Jaishankar thanked his hosts for the warm reception and expressed optimism about the discussions scheduled during the visit.

Jaishankar’s visit to Mongolia forms the first leg of his four-day tour covering Mongolia and the Republic of Korea. During his stay, he will meet Mongolia’s top leadership and hold detailed talks with Foreign Minister B Battsetseg.

The meetings will focus on assessing the progress of existing initiatives and identifying new areas for collaboration in sectors of mutual interest.

India and Mongolia have maintained strong diplomatic relations for decades, supported by common cultural traditions, democratic principles, and spiritual links.

Formal diplomatic ties between the two nations began in December 1955.

The partnership continued to grow after Mongolia established its embassy in New Delhi and India opened its resident mission in Ulaanbaatar, leading to broader cooperation in several fields.

The visit follows Jaishankar’s meeting with Mongolian President Khurelsukh Ukhnaa during the President’s trip to India in October last year.

The interaction underscored the commitment of both governments to further deepen bilateral engagement.

Officials expect the current visit to provide fresh momentum to India-Mongolia relations and pave the way for closer cooperation in the years ahead.
