Vladimir Putin
After US President Joe Biden abandoned his reelection bid, the Kremlin stated that the most important thing for Russia was achieving its goals in the Ukraine war, rather than US politics, which Moscow predicted would shift dramatically in the coming months.
Under mounting pressure from his fellow Democrats, Biden dropped his reelection bid on Sunday and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as the party’s nominee to face Republican Donald Trump in the November election.
“The elections are still four months away, and that is a long period of time in which a lot can change”, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.
Peskov went on to say, “We need to be patient and carefully monitor what happens”.
“The priority for us is the special military operation”, Peskov said, referring to President Vladimir Putin’s preferred phrase for the Ukraine war.
Putin had suggested multiple times that he felt Biden was preferable as the future US president to Trump for Russia, even after Biden described the Kremlin chief as a ‘crazy SOB’ but some of his words have been vague.
Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev wrote on Telegram that he wished Biden good health and that the special military operation would be achieved.
