Report: Collision Between Two Trains in Italy Leaves 17 with Minor Injuries

At least 17 people were hurt when two trains collided at a moderate speed in northern Italy late on Sunday; none of them were critically hurt, according to firefighters and the train operator.

The fire service reported on social media that at least 17 persons were hurt in an accident involving a high-speed train and a regional train that happened on the route between Bologna and Rimini, precisely between the cities of Faenza and commune of Forli.

Nonetheless, a representative for national train operator Trenitalia informed reporters that the most of the injuries were bruises and that there were only “minor injuries”.

He clarified, “It was a collision at very low speed,” and stated that the incident was being looked into.

The front of the regional train was still intact even though the two trains had collided head-on in images released by the firefighters.

Matteo Salvini, the deputy prime minister and minister of transport, acknowledged the injuries were mild and stated he was monitoring the situation.

He claimed he was looking for quick answers on what transpired and possible accountability.

Three months prior, on August 31, during nocturnal maintenance on the Milan-Turin line, a train struck and killed five railway workers.

The last fatal train disaster in Italy happened in 2020 when a train at Lodi, south of Milan, derailed before dawn, killing two rail personnel and injuring thirty-one passengers.

And in January 2018, an overcrowded train near Milan crashed, killing three ladies and injuring around a hundred others. The disaster was attributed to inadequate track maintenance.
