Putin To Visit India; ‘One Of The Great Powers Of Our Time’, Soon: Lavrov

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has confirmed that preparations are underway for Russian President Vladimir Putin’s visit to India.

Highlighting the deep political and economic ties between the two nations, Lavrov emphasized that Moscow and New Delhi share similar views on a multipolar world order.

Lavrov made the remarks at the first international conference titled Russia and India: Towards a New Agenda for Bilateral Relations. The event was also addressed by India’s External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar.

He underscored the strong foundation of India-Russia relations, built on mutual respect and cooperation.

“It is symbolic that Prime Minister Narendra Modi chose Russia for his first bilateral visit after re-election last year. Now, it is our turn. President Putin has accepted PM Modi’s invitation, and preparations for his visit to India are underway,” Lavrov stated.

Kremlin aide Yury Ushakov confirmed earlier that Putin is expected to visit India in early 2025 as part of the annual summit tradition between the two leaders. The last such visit took place in December 2021.

Lavrov highlighted the growing trade between India and Russia, stating that bilateral trade surpassed $60 billion in 2024, the highest in history.

He reaffirmed the commitment to achieving the $100 billion trade target by 2030.

Russia and India continue collaborating on global platforms like the UN, G20, BRICS, and SCO. Lavrov also praised India’s balanced stance on the Ukraine crisis, acknowledging PM Modi’s advocacy for a diplomatic resolution.

Putin’s upcoming visit is expected to further bolster India – Russia relations across strategic, economic, and diplomatic fronts.
