Putin Praises PM Modi’s Role In Strengthening India-Russia Strategic Partnership

Russian President Vladimir Putin said India-Russia relations continue to advance under the framework of a privileged strategic partnership. He credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s personal attention and their warm relationship for strengthening bilateral ties.

Putin made the remarks during his bilateral meeting with PM Modi on the sidelines of the 26th Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in Bishkek. He said the partnership has grown through both official engagement and strong personal ties.

Putin welcomed their latest meeting ahead of the SCO Summit. He said the SCO works to deepen links among countries across the Global South and East.

The Russian President stated that the organisation promotes socio-economic and cultural development while supporting a fair and multipolar world. He further referred to External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar’s recent Moscow visit. He said he fully agreed with the matters discussed during the trip.

Looking ahead, Putin noted that India and Russia will mark 80 years of diplomatic relations in 2027. He said Russia was preparing seriously for the BRICS Summit in New Delhi in September.

Trade and economic cooperation, meanwhile, showed positive movement.

The Russian President said bilateral trade slipped slightly last year but rose 2.6 per cent during the first six months of this year. He further highlighted the recent meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission in Moscow, which produced encouraging results.

Putin pointed to growing educational links. India ranks among the leading sources of students studying in Russia.

Over the past decade, their number has increased sevenfold, reaching nearly 40,000.
