President Trump Says US Will Take Control Of Strait Of Hormuz

US President Donald Trump on Monday declared that the United States would assume control of the Strait of Hormuz and could permanently oversee its security after accusing Iran of violating a military agreement and continuing to deploy drones into the strategically vital waterway.

Speaking to Fox News, Trump asserted that the US had carried out overnight strikes on Iranian military assets and would respond decisively to any future drone activity. He claimed the attacks had significantly weakened Iran’s military capabilities, including its anti-aircraft systems.

Trump alleged that Washington and Tehran had finalised an agreement after prolonged negotiations, but Iran later attempted to alter its terms.

According to him, Iranian negotiators initially accepted every condition during an 11-hour meeting before requesting revisions, which the US rejected.

The President said repeated breaches by Iran had prompted Washington to take direct control of the Strait. He claimed the United States would likely manage the strategic passage permanently and described the proposed role as the ‘guardian angel’ of the Strait.

Trump also argued that countries benefiting from safe navigation through the waterway should compensate the United States for providing security. He maintained that Washington had protected the route for decades without financial support and insisted the burden should no longer fall solely on American taxpayers.

The Strait of Hormuz connects the Persian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea. It serves as one of the world’s most critical energy corridors, transporting large volumes of crude oil and liquefied natural gas from Gulf producers to global markets, including India and several Asian economies.
