President Trump Says Strait Of Hormuz Will Reopen If US-Iran Deal Is Reached

US President Donald Trump has said the Strait of Hormuz will reopen immediately if the United States and Iran sign a proposed agreement, signalling progress in negotiations aimed at preventing Tehran from developing nuclear weapons and easing regional tensions.

Speaking at the White House, Trump said the strategically important waterway would resume normal operations as soon as both sides finalise the deal. He also stated that US forces had deployed minesweeping operations in the region and cleared most suspected naval mines.

The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most critical energy routes, carrying a substantial share of global oil and liquefied natural gas exports.

Any disruption to traffic through the passage can significantly affect international energy markets, including major importers such as India.

Trump expressed confidence about the ongoing talks, saying negotiations had progressed well and could produce an agreement within days.

While acknowledging that no deal was certain, the US President suggested a breakthrough could come as early as the weekend.

Trump said the proposed agreement aims to ensure Iran never acquires a nuclear weapon and would include strict commitments preventing Tehran from developing or possessing nuclear arms. He also suggested that the United States and Iran could jointly remove and destroy remaining nuclear-related materials at Iranian facilities to address concerns over Tehran’s nuclear programme.

Trump linked the diplomatic progress to recent US strikes on Iranian nuclear sites, claiming they had significantly weakened Iran’s nuclear capabilities. He further revealed that US officials had opened communication with Hezbollah and praised Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for supporting regional stability.

According to Trump, the proposed agreement would offer stronger safeguards than the Obama-era nuclear deal while preventing Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons through diplomacy.
