President Trump Delays Decision On Iran Deal After White House Security Meeting

US President Donald Trump on Friday deferred a final decision on a proposed agreement with Iran after holding an extensive meeting with his national security team at the White House Situation Room.

The high-level meeting lasted nearly two hours and focused on the draft framework currently under consideration between Washington and Tehran.

Following the discussions, a White House official stated that President Trump would approve only an agreement that aligns with American interests and meets his stated conditions.

The official reiterated that the United States remains firm on preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons. The administration did not immediately explain why the President chose to postpone a final determination.

Earlier in the day, Trump outlined key expectations for any future agreement in a post on Truth Social. He indicated that he would meet his national security advisers before reaching a final verdict on the proposal.

Among the principal demands, Trump called for Iran to abandon any pursuit of a nuclear weapon permanently. He also insisted on the immediate reopening of the Strait of Hormuz for unrestricted maritime traffic without tolls or restrictions.

In his statement, Trump further demanded the removal of any water mines in the region and announced that the US naval blockade would be lifted under the proposed arrangement.

The President also addressed Iran’s enriched nuclear material.

The United States, Iran, and the International Atomic Energy Agency will excavate and destroy the buried nuclear stockpile.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei offered a different perspective on the talks.

Speaking to Iranian state media, Baghaei said the current negotiations remain limited in scope and do not include discussions on the nuclear issue.

The latest developments underscore the continuing complexity of US-Iran negotiations, with significant differences still evident despite ongoing diplomatic engagement.
