President Putin And PM Modi Reaffirm Strategic Ties During High-Level Phone Call

In a significant diplomatic engagement, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a telephone conversation to strengthen bilateral relations.

The Kremlin’s official website confirmed the call, highlighting the strategic depth of what both nations regard as a “uniquely privileged partnership”.

Terrorism, Commemoration And Bilateral Relations

During the discussion, President Putin reiterated his condolences over the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir.

Both leaders agreed on the urgent need for continued collaboration in combating terrorism, underlining a shared commitment to global security and peace.

In a gesture of solidarity, Prime Minister Modi extended congratulations to President Putin and the Russian people ahead of the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War.

PM Modi described this occasion as a shared historical commemoration, reinforcing the longstanding camaraderie between the two nations.

Invitation To India And Strategic Summit

Prime Minister Modi also invited President Putin to visit India for the annual bilateral summit.

According to Russian sources, Putin warmly accepted the invitation, a move that is expected to further cement ties between New Delhi and Moscow amid global geopolitical shifts.

India’s Active Participation In Russia’s Victory Day Celebrations

Meanwhile, Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth represented India at Russia’s Victory Day celebrations held in Moscow from 8–9 May.

On 9 May, the minister laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and attended the grand Victory Day Parade alongside foreign dignitaries.

Seth’s participation symbolised the depth of India-Russia defence cooperation, which spans decades.

During his visit, he also met President Putin and conveyed India’s congratulations on the 80th Victory Day.

High-Level Defence Talks Held In Moscow

In addition, the Minister of State held talks with Russian Deputy Defence Minister Colonel General Alexander Fomin.

Both sides discussed their robust military and technical cooperation, agreeing to deepen engagement through established institutional mechanisms.

They further committed to regular consultations and enhanced collaboration in response to evolving global security dynamics, with particular focus on India’s continued struggle against cross-border terrorism.

Strengthening A Time-Tested Partnership

This series of diplomatic and military exchanges underlines the resilience and continued relevance of the India-Russia strategic partnership.

As both countries look ahead, the engagement serves as a reminder of their mutual trust, shared values, and a unified stance on global challenges.
