Since April, the number of persons diagnosed with Covid-19 in hospitals across China has more than fivefold increase.
According to data issued by the Chinese Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), it had reached more than 40 percent of those tested by the end of May.
According to government data, China was hit by a Covid-19 wave again in May, with a lower positive test rate compared to the peak reported during the pandemic’s end-of-year impact.
In May, China recorded 164 deaths among people infected with Covid-19. Furthermore, as many as 2,777 people were infected with serious diseases, and the number continued to rise throughout the month.
The May China CDC Covid-19 data confirmed anecdotal evidence of a second reported in local and social media.
The report came more than a month after the agency’s last weekly surveillance report, which was provided at the end of April.
There has been some evidence of widespread absenteeism in offices and factories. Furthermore, the doctors noted that the majority of the ailments are minor.
Dr. Zhong Nanshan, a prominent Pulmonary Disease Expert and one of China’s top Covid-19 advisers, estimated that the second wave would peak around the end of June, potentially with more than 65 million cases every week.
