PM Modi’s UK Visit To Focus On Trade, Investment, & Strategic Ties

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s two-day visit to the United Kingdom, beginning 23 July, will primarily focus on expanding trade and investment between the two nations.

Indian High Commissioner to the UK, Vikram Doraiswami, confirmed that both sides are actively working to finalise the India-UK Free Trade Agreement (FTA) and enhance their comprehensive strategic partnership.

Doraiswami stated that preparations in London are underway, adding, “Our entire team is working in London to prepare for the visit”

The discussions will centre on how to effectively implement the FTA once signed and explore further opportunities to strengthen economic ties.

According to Doraiswami, the major negotiations on the FTA have already concluded, with only formal procedures left to complete.

“We will be discussing a lot on trade and investment, especially how to implement the trade agreement once it is signed, and how both countries can further strengthen their economic relationship. Indian companies operating in the UK are largely satisfied; they have received good market access here,” he said.

The agreement aims to create substantial opportunities for both sides, improve market access, and boost trade volumes.

Doraiswami added that Indian companies operating in the UK have expressed satisfaction with their current level of market access.

High-Level Engagement & Strategic Dialogue

PM Modi’s visit, at the invitation of British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, marks his fourth official trip to the UK.

The visit will include high-level talks covering trade, economy, and defence cooperation. Leaders will also discuss technology, climate, health, and education.

The Ministry of External Affairs stated that the leaders will conduct a detailed review of the India-UK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP).

This review will serve to guide future collaboration across critical sectors and identify new areas for cooperation.

In addition to bilateral matters, PM Modi and PM Starmer plan to discuss key global and regional developments. Their dialogue will aim to build consensus on shared challenges such as climate action and global security.

The visit promises to inject renewed energy into India-UK ties. By advancing the FTA and expanding the scope of the CSP, both nations hope to forge a stronger, forward-looking partnership.

With mutual priorities aligned, the visit aims to pave the way for deeper economic integration and strategic cooperation.
