PM Modi Wraps Up Historic Visit To France, President Macron Sees Him Off

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has concluded his highly productive three-day visit to France, marking the end of a significant diplomatic trip with key discussions on artificial intelligence (AI), commerce, energy, and cultural linkages. In a rare and special gesture, French President Emmanuel Macron personally came to the airport to see PM Modi off, with the two leaders exchanging a warm hug before his departure.

The Prime Minister is now en route to Washington DC for the second leg of his two-nation tour, which will include crucial talks with US officials.

During his visit to France, PM Modi participated in a range of high-profile programs, underscoring the growing strategic partnership between India and France. One of the most notable events was his co-chairing of the AI Action Summit, which brought together global leaders and tech CEOs to discuss the future of artificial intelligence.

“Thank you France! A productive visit concludes, where I attended programs ranging from AI, commerce, energy, and cultural linkages. Gratitude to President @EmmanuelMacron and the people of France,” PM Modi tweeted, reflecting on the success of his trip.

The visit also saw the two leaders engage in bilateral discussions to review the progress of the 2047 Horizon Roadmap, a long-term vision for strengthening the India-France strategic partnership. PM Modi and President Macron traveled to the historic French city of Marseille, where they inaugurated the first-ever Indian Consulate in France.

The trip also included a visit to the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER), a major collaborative energy project, where India is a key member of the consortium alongside France and other countries.

As part of his visit, PM Modi paid tribute to Indian soldiers who sacrificed their lives during the World Wars at the Mazargues War Cemetery in Marseille, honoring their legacy and the deep ties between India and France.

The conclusion of the visit was marked by a heartfelt farewell from President Macron, who made a point to personally accompany PM Modi to the airport. Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal shared this moment on social media, describing it as “a historic visit to France in the ancient city of Marseille.”

Following his departure from France, PM Modi will engage in official talks in the United States on February 12 and 13. This visit is his first to the US following the inauguration of President Donald Trump’s second term.

In a statement before leaving France, PM Modi expressed his anticipation of further strengthening the bilateral relationship, noting, “Although this will be our first meeting following his historic electoral victory and inauguration in January, I have a very warm recollection of working together in his first term in building a Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership between India and the US.”

As PM Modi embarks on the next stage of his diplomatic journey, all eyes will be on the key agreements and discussions that will shape the future of India-US relations.
