PM Modi Showcases Indian Heritage Through Gifts To Slovak Leaders

As part of his official engagements in Slovakia, Prime Minister Narendra Modi presented an array of culturally significant gifts to the country’s senior leadership. The collection showcased India’s rich legacy of craftsmanship, traditional knowledge and regional specialities.

Prime Minister Modi gifted Slovak President Peter Pellegrini a set of Thewa-inspired cufflinks, a Himroo silk tie with a matching pocket square, and a handcrafted Dokra brass antelope ensemble.

Originating in Rajasthan, Thewa is a distinctive craft that combines delicate gold artistry with coloured glass to create intricate ornamental designs.

Preserved by generations of artisans, the centuries-old tradition, however, continues to serve as a symbol of India’s creative excellence.

The Himroo accessories represented a celebrated weaving tradition that flourished under the patronage of the Deccan courts.

Renowned for their fine texture and elegant woven motifs, Himroo textiles also remain among India’s most treasured fabric arts.

The Dokra antelope sculptures reflected an ancient tribal metal-casting technique practised across several regions of eastern and central India.

Crafted through the traditional lost-wax process, each piece carries unique artistic details inspired by wildlife and nature.

For Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, PM Modi selected a handwoven Kashmiri silk carpet known for its intricate knotting and refined artistry.

Skilled artisans in the Kashmir Valley handcraft these carpets. They often spend months on intricate knotting and detailed workmanship. Buyers around the world, however, value the carpets for their outstanding quality and design.

National Council Speaker Richard Rasi received a copy of the Charaka Samhita. He also received the Sushruta Samhita, one of the most influential texts in the Ayurvedic tradition. In addition, he was presented with Thekua, a popular sweet delicacy from Bihar and Jharkhand.

The Sushruta Samhita is widely regarded for its contributions to surgery and medical science. The Charaka Samhita offers extensive insights into health, wellness and disease management. Together, the two texts form the foundation of classical Ayurveda.

The presentation of these gifts also reflected India’s commitment to cultural diplomacy and people-to-people engagement.
