PM Modi Receives Ceremonial Welcome, Guard Of Honour In Melbourne

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday received a ceremonial welcome and a Guard of Honour at Government House, Victoria, in Melbourne, marking the formal commencement of his Australia visit.

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese welcomed him warmly as both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the India-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

Australian forces presented the Guard of Honour while the Indian National Anthem echoed during the ceremonial reception.

The event reflected the growing strategic relationship and close diplomatic engagement between the two countries.

Earlier, Prime Minister Modi joined Prime Minister Albanese at the India-Australia CEO Forum in Melbourne, where both leaders interacted with leading business representatives from India and Australia. They addressed the gathering and emphasised stronger economic cooperation across multiple sectors.

During the forum, PM Modi invited Australian companies to become partners in India’s development journey through investments in manufacturing, clean energy, artificial intelligence, the digital economy and emerging industries. He highlighted India and Australia as ‘natural and trusted partners’ amid global uncertainty and encouraged businesses to deepen collaboration in infrastructure, education and technology.

The Prime Minister also addressed the Economic Roadmap Business Reception, where he said the presence of business leaders reflected the shared confidence and aspirations of both nations. He noted that the CEO Forum, established in 2012 and relaunched in 2023, continues to promote trade, investment and long-term economic cooperation.

Earlier on Wednesday, PM Modi received an enthusiastic welcome from the Indian community after arriving in Melbourne from Indonesia. He described the reception as ‘truly unforgettable’ in his social media statement and said the warmth shown by the diaspora reflected their enduring bond with India. He also expressed confidence that his discussions with Prime Minister Albanese would further strengthen bilateral relations.
