PM Modi Meets Croatian President In Zagreb; Strengthens India-Croatia Ties

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his official visit to Croatia, the first by an Indian Prime Minister, met with President Zoran Milanović in Zagreb on Wednesday.

The meeting marked a pivotal step in enhancing India-Croatia bilateral relations.

The leaders held extensive discussions aimed at strengthening the growing partnership between the two countries, focusing on trade, culture, defence, and global cooperation.

In a post on social media platform X, PM Modi said, “Met Zoran Milanović, the President of Croatia. Had extensive discussions on the full range of India-Croatia friendship, including ways to boost linkages of commerce and culture.”

The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) added that the talks reaffirmed both nations’ shared commitment to enhancing ties based on democratic values, the rule of law, and mutual respect.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) confirmed that the discussions covered a broad spectrum of bilateral cooperation.

Both leaders expressed satisfaction over the diversification of ties into newer sectors such as defence collaboration, start-ups, innovation, and sports.

A stand for peace & partnership

PM Modi also thanked President Milanović for Croatia’s continued support in India’s efforts to combat terrorism.

The leaders underscored their commitment to international peace and stability, and acknowledged the growing importance of the India-EU strategic partnership, which they noted could bring added value to India-Croatia relations.

The leaders celebrated the deep-rooted cultural connections that span centuries.

Discussions also highlighted the role of shared heritage in bringing the two nations closer, with an emphasis on people-to-people exchanges and academic cooperation.

Earlier in the day, PM Modi was received with a ceremonial welcome at the historic Banski Dvori Palace by Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković.

In a gesture of warmth, PM Plenković also personally welcomed him at the airport in Zagreb.

The two Prime Ministers engaged in high-level delegation talks, covering trade, science and technology, defence and security, space cooperation, and cultural partnerships.

PM Modi’s visit marks a milestone in the diplomatic history between India and Croatia.

Both sides agreed to work together to unlock the full potential of their partnership and take bilateral relations to new heights.

Leaders discussed strategic, economic, and cultural synergies during this visit, paving the way for stronger collaboration in the years ahead.
